Bombardier Participates in Berlin Engagement Week
- Volunteer day provides opportunity to engage in local community projects
- 25 members of staff support an educational and family centre in Berlin
Berlin, September 18, 2013 /3BL Media/ – Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation is participating in the Berlin Engagement Week, which runs until September 29 under the patronage of the Mayor of Berlin. 25 members of staff from Bombardier Transportation’s headquarters in Berlin supported the Kreativhaus Fischerinsel, a combined theatre-educational centre and family centre for people of all ages in central Berlin. The Kreativhaus offers linguistic training at day care centres, language training and social integration for migrants as well as educational projects focusing on the environment, children's human rights and globalisation.
During the Berlin Volunteer Day, the Bombardier employees helped prepare this year’s World Children’s Day by creating stage decorations and costumes and producing materials for the learning and playing area. They also supported the Kreativhaus with smaller renovation work.
In line with its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, Bombardier focuses its community engagement on three themes: education, environment and entrepreneurship. This recent initiative is another example of the company’s CSR commitment to be an active member in the communities where it operates. Previously, Bombardier supported local non-profit organisations such as the food bank Berliner Tafel and Die ARCHE, a children’s charity. The company also engaged in initiatives in the immediate vicinity of the Berlin headquarters including the planting of trees in the Westpark Gleisdreieck.
For the seventh consecutive year, Bombardier has been chosen as an index component in two important benchmark indicators of sustainability, the Dow Jones Sustainability World index (DJSI World) and the Dow Jones Sustainability North America index (DJSI North America). In addition to both listings, Bombardier has been awarded the leadership position within its industry for the second consecutive year.
