BNY Mellon Awards $335,000 to Pittsburgh-area Nonprofits
PITTSBURGH, May 9, 2014 /3BL Media/ – BNY Mellon, a global leader in investment management and investment services, has awarded $335,000 in grants to six Pittsburgh-area nonprofit organizations. The grants were approved during the BNY Mellon Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania’s spring meeting.
“Our community partners are committed to serving the most vulnerable populations in the region and to helping families in need, whether their needs are related to housing, education or securing meaningful employment,” said James P. McDonald, BNY Mellon’s director of global philanthropy. “We continue to invest in these organizations so they can provide critical services that strengthen our communities.
The grant recipients are:
- Action Housing Inc. – $60,000 to support the MyPlace affordable housing program for 59 homeless young adults who have aged out of the foster care system;
- Family House, Inc. – $50,000 to enable the Family Assistance Fund to provide subsidized housing to 233 families whose loved ones are being treated at hospitals in southwestern Pennsylvania;
- Southwestern Pennsylvania Housing Alliance – $50,000 that will enable the Alliance to expand its program and better address the need for high-quality affordable housing;
- Extra Mile Education Foundation – $35,000 to support Extra Mile’s financial subsidy program, which provides affordable access to select parochial schools for urban children;
- Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy – $40,000 that will enable the Conservancy to create a commemorative publication for the rededication of Mellon Square;
- Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board (TRWIB) – $100,000 to support TRWIB’s Pittsburgh Works workforce development collaborative and WorkReady Pittsburgh summer internship program for low-income high school students.
