NEW YORK, March 24, 2016 /3BL Media/ - Bloomberg is bringing its popular Square Mile Relay to New York's Financial District on Thursday, April 21, 2016 for the first time. The relay race will feature more than 100 teams from leading financial institutions who compete to win a $10,000 donation to the charity of their choice. Each team includes 10 runners who will each run a 1 mile course that winds through the Financial District and culminates in a celebratory after party at the finish line where runners and their friends will be treated to a live DJ set and complimentary food and drinks as the race results come in.

The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay has named the National September 11 Memorial & Museum as the official charity partner and will make a donation to help support the nonprofit organization's mission.

First launched in London in 2007, the race has become an institution in the City of London and now sells out within hours inLondon. Bloomberg has expanded the race series to other global financial centers including Dubai, Hong Kong, Shanghai,Singapore and, most recently, Sydney.

"We're excited to bring this popular race to our home city of New York. The race embodies the importance of speed, team work, and giving back -- three values that we celebrate at Bloomberg. It will be great to see so many of our customers, employees and industry friends running alongside each other for so many good causes, including the National September 11 Memorial & Museum," said Michael R. Bloomberg, Founder Bloomberg L.P.

"We are grateful for the generous support the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay has shown by selecting us as its official charity partner for the inaugural event in New York. Partnerships such as these are critical to help ensure the Memorial and Museum is sustained, and that visitors from around the world, especially current and future generations, will be able to experience this world-class learning institution and living tribute for years to come," said Cathy Blaney, 9/11 Memorial's Executive Vice President of Institutional Advancement.

"The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay is a unique sporting event which offers a perfect opportunity for the city's most competitive runners to come together for a night of camaraderie, teamwork, celebration and networking. Our goal is to offer a platform for teams from local corporations to express their sporting enthusiasm while bonding with fellow colleagues. The event is open to all levels of experience -- whether you are an elite or leisure runner – we want everyone to enjoy this relay," said Nick Keller, Managing Director of event organizer Square Mile Sport.

Thanks to the event's official venue partner, the Howard Hughes Corporation, runners from the city's top financial organizations will start the competition at the Race Village within the Seaport District on the corner of Fulton Street and Front Street at 7pm. They will challenge one another for lead position, weaving their way through the unique and urban mile-long loop as they twist and turn through Water Street and Wall Street. During the awards presentation, trophies will be handed out to the first, second, and third place winners as well as the fastest runner, and a charity check for $10,000 will be presented to the winning team.
