Editor, Caller Times:
Last week I came home to Corpus Christi to view a live watch presentation in which two local CITGO Ambassadors and the E/V Nautilus crew carried their mission to advance STEM education and safeguard our beautiful oceans and marine life. This once-in-a-lifetime journey from Belize to Jamaica afforded these two local citizens a unique learning opportunity. This is one of many opportunities that CITGO has provided to the community.
I have had many dealings with CITGO and have learned that giving back is as the core of who they are and what they do. Since 2005, they have proudly invested in John Paul II High School, a Catholic school that focuses on the spiritual, moral, intellectual, social, cultural and physical development of the students.
CITGO’s social investment in people includes their Hands for Hillcrest grant in which organizations such as the Food Bank and Sea City Work Camp offers services to the neighborhood in which they live and work. Their most recent contribution to Timon’s Ministries helps the area’s working poor.
I wish to thank CITGO for the many times they have stepped up to help the poor and inspire students to pursue an education, as they do through their First in Family Scholarships, Distinguished Scholars Program and Education is Our Freedom. Corpus Christi is a better place to live because of our friends at CITGO. May God continue to bless them for their efforts to strengthen the Corpus Christi community, a place that we are all proud to call home.
Respectfully yours,
Bishop Edmond Carmody
