Balfour Beatty Construction Golf Outing Helps to Raise Over $80,000 to Support Sharefest’s 11th Annual Workday
Torrance, Calif., April 29, 2014 /3BL Media/ - On Saturday, May 3, four school campuses in the Redondo, Torrance, Culver City and Wiseburn School Districts will receive much needed improvements, thanks to more than 350 Balfour Beatty Construction employees, contractors, vendors, site staff, students, family, and community members. The annual Sharefest Workday mobilizes thousands of volunteers throughout Los Angeles County every year to complete tangible work projects that will change the quality of life for its residents. In addition, the improvements are provided at no cost to the schools.
This is the fifth year that Balfour Beatty Construction has joined Sharefest for a hands-on partnership, and the second year that additional financial support was provided through Balfour Beatty Construction / Sharefest’s Annual Golf Tournament held on April 25, 2014 at Skylinks Golf Course in Long Beach, Calif.
The golf event was well attended with 160 golfers plus 20 volunteers and included a dinner and awards banquet. Participants included Balfour Beatty Construction employees as well as its many partners who helped to raise more than $80,000 to support the improvement projects taking place at the schools this Saturday. The funds will also benefit Sharefest’s Youth Development Academy, a summer program offering academic and extracurricular activities to underserved middle and high school students.
“Along with our company’s contribution, we had the support of 53 contractors, consultants, and vendors who helped us set a new bar for giving back to the communities where we all work,” said John Bernardy, senior vice president, Balfour Beatty Construction - Los Angeles/Orange County. “Not only did we greatly exceed the amount raised from last year’s tournament, our cumulative involvement has afforded us a tremendous sense of community pride. The net results of the monies raised will be used to improve the lives of thousands of people who live in these communities – something all of us will cherish and remember for years to come.”
“Thanks to the ongoing generous support of Balfour Beatty Construction, we continue to make a tangible difference in our communities,” said Chad Mayer, executive director of Sharefest. “With their help, the Workday projects we will complete at schools throughout Los Angeles County will not only beautify and improve the campuses, but also inspire communities to take pride in the places they learn, live, and work.”
