AT&T Supports Khan Academy App To Empower Learning On the Go
Mobile technology is transforming the way that teachers teach and students learn. To enable anytime, anywhere learning for people across the world, AT&T is contributing $2.25 million to Khan Academy.
The majority of the contribution supports the non-profit leader’s enhanced mobile platform that includes this new, personal and interactive app. This free online library of learning resources brings interactive, personalized learning to students via problem questions, handwriting recognition and more. Students can learn using videos, interactive exercises and articles on subjects from algebra to prehistoric art to chemistry.
“Khan Academy’s new app delivers a world-class education to students, whether they are at home, in the classroom or on the go,” said Charlene Lake, Senior Vice President, Public Affairs and Chief Sustainability Officer, AT&T. “Empowering students to succeed using technology, no matter who they are or where they live, is why AT&T Aspire supports tools and solutions that mobilize learning.”
“The support of our donors, like AT&T, helps us bring education to even more students, in more ways,” said Khan Academy Product Manager Matt Wahl. “After working with many learners to understand and hone our user experience, we're excited about the role this new app can play in learning for students no matter where they live.”
The Khan Academy app offers the following new ways students can learn math and more:
- Sharpen their skills: more than 150,000 interactive, common core aligned exercises with instant feedback and step-by-step hints for each question. Students can follow along with what they’re learning in school or at their own pace.
- Flex their muscles: the app adjusts to provide interactive exercise recommendations that are just right—not too hard, not too easy—and a friendly guide through the world of math.
- Show their work: the app harnesses the power of showing and stepping through the student’s work with a beautiful, expansive scratchpad.
- Track back: learning auto-magically syncs between the tablet and khanacademy.org, so progress and recommendations are always up-to-date, anywhere, anytime.
This contribution builds on AT&T’s investment in ed-tech through its $350 million signature education initiative, AT&T Aspire. From launching nanodegrees with the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) leader Udacity, to committing to provide $100 million of free mobile broadband Internet access to select middle and high school students in Title 1 schools across the country as part of the White House ConnectED initiative, the company is using its expertise in technology to transform learning and open a new world of opportunities to students everywhere.
