Asian Pacific American Heritage Month: Cox Enterprises Supports Asian American and Pacific Islander Students
Happy National Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. At Cox Enterprises, diversity and inclusion is more than just a hot topic or a box to check for business, it is embedded within the company’s culture. At Cox, although diversity and inclusion is a top priority within the business, the company also supports these efforts within the communities it serves.
In 2016, Cox Enterprises established a partnership with the Asian and Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF) to support ten underserved Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) undergraduate students in the Greater Atlanta area, Orlando, and Austin through a grant towards the 2017 APIASF General Scholarship Program.
The AAPI poverty population is among the fastest growing poverty populations in the wake of the recession. Based on a poverty report in 2013 by the National Coalition for Asian Pacific American Community Development, approximately 2,000,000 AAPIs were living below the poverty line. Compared to the 27% national poverty growth from 2007 to 2011, poverty growth of Asian Americans was at 37% and a staggering 60% of the Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander population.
This grant will support AAPI students majoring in STEM, Sales/Marketing, Customer Service, Project Management, Computer Science/Programming or Digital Communications for the 2018-19 academic year. In addition, Cox Enterprises will bridge the gap by providing access to its internship and career opportunities to the APIASF national scholar network. At Cox Enterprises, the goal is to build sustainable communities and this is achieved by investing in the development and talent of the people that it serves.
This month, as the country celebrates National Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, there are several ways that you can support APIASF. To learn more about the scholarship, to donate, or if you are interested in applying for the scholarship, visit www.apiasf.org.
