Antea Group Named Member Partner of Manufacturing USA’s REMADE Institute on Clean Energy
National Consortium Will Forge New Clean Energy Initiatives Deemed Critical in Keeping Domestic Manufacturing Competitive
January 12, 2017 /3BL Media/-- Antea Group has been named a member partner of the Reducing Embodied-Energy and Decreasing Emissions (“REMADE”) Institute by the U.S. Department of Energy. REMADE, part of the multiagency network known as Manufacturing USA, will work to find new and less expensive ways to reuse, recycle, and remanufacture materials such as metals, fibers, polymers, and electronic waste, aiming to achieve a 50-percent improvement in overall energy efficiency in U.S. manufacturing by 2027.
In charge of directing over $140 million in public and private funding, the institute is being led by Rochester Institute of Technology’s Golisano Institute for Sustainability (GIS) with additional research and expertise contributed by a consortium of 26 universities, 44 companies, seven national labs, and 26 industry trade associations and foundations.
“As an environmental and sustainability consulting firm, we are proud to be a member of REMADE,” says Tristan Steichen, Senior Consultant, Antea Group USA. “We understand the vital connection between industry, technology and environment and are excited to be part of cutting-edge research, development and demonstration activities that further U.S. manufacturing and responsibly manage resource consumption.”
REMADE will focus its efforts on driving down technology costs in five key areas; System Analysis & Integration, Design for Reuse, Manufacturing Processes, Remanufacturing, and Recycling & Recovery.
Efficiencies in these areas could save billions of dollars in energy costs and improve U.S. economic competitiveness through innovative new manufacturing techniques, small business opportunities and new training and jobs for American workers.
The REMADE Institute members have developed the following five-year goals:
- 5 to 10 percent improvement in manufacturing material efficiency by reducing manufacturing material waste
- 50 percent increase in remanufacturing applications
- 30 percent increase in efficiency of remanufacturing operations
- 30 percent increase in recycling efficiencies
- A targeted 50 percent increase in sales for the U.S. manufacturing industry to $21.5 billion and the creation of a next-generation recycling and manufacturing workforce
“As circular economy thinking continues to gain understanding and acceptance globally, collaborative, innovation-focused initiatives like REMADE will be critical to its implementation and successful outcomes,” concludes Steichen.
