Alexion Receives Boston Cares 2020 Corporate Partner of the Year Award

Alexion is honored to receive the 2020 Corporate Partner of the Year Award from volunteer agency Boston Cares as part of their annual Boston Cares Awards recognizing outstanding volunteers and partners.

At Alexion, we continuously work to change lives for the better - ours, people living with rare diseases and devastating conditions, and the communities we serve - and our commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen helps make it possible.  To Serve is a key tenet of our CSR-STAR Platform and includes Alexion’s commitment to volunteerism and engagement within our local communities.

For the past five years, Alexion has partnered with Boston Cares as part of our ongoing commitment to service.  Throughout this time, we have worked with Boston Cares to provide employees with a variety of volunteer opportunities, including during our annual Global Week of Service.  In 2020, we, like organizations around the world, were forced to quickly adapt our programming.  With Boston Cares’ support, we were able to pivot to a 100% virtual 2020 Global Week of Service in lieu of our typical off-site activities.  Our partnership with Boston Cares in 2020 provided 280+ Boston-based Alexion volunteers with the opportunity to participate in a variety of virtual activities, resulting in a total of 400+ hours served.

This year is particularly special as it commemorates Boston Cares’ 30 years of dedicated service to the Boston community.  For the past three decades, Boston Cares volunteers have contributed more than 1.3 million hours of service to hundreds of Greater Boston schools and nonprofits, helping to address hunger and homelessness, working to bridge economic and opportunity gaps, improving education spaces, and addressing health and wellness needs.  In the wake of the devastating Covid-19 pandemic, Boston Cares was able to pivot to majority virtual volunteerism for those who were most in need.
