Alexion Hosts Hackathon in New Haven

On the morning of June 26th, the auditorium at Alexion’s R&D Center of Excellence in New Haven was buzzing with teams communicating, collaborating, and innovating at the site’s first-ever employee-led hackathon. The decision to hold this event came in early 2019 when New Haven site leadership met to discuss ways to strengthen their unity with the local community.  With Innovate for Solutions being one of Alexion’s culture values, a hackathon seemed like the perfect idea.

Employees and interns from across all functions came together for the day-and-a-half long event dedicated to exploring ways to increase employee and community connectivity. Teams focused on a broad swathe of community engagement ideas, including local non-profit sponsorships and the distribution of “science in a box,” small, low-cost science experiments, to young students in New Haven. One team even created a prototype of a database that holds global STEM experiment resources. Following the June 27th event, many of the teams are still connecting and evolving their ideas to move them forward with the support of site leadership.

This hackathon supports Alexion’s ongoing commitment to serve the communities in which we live and work in support of those who depend on us today and the generations that follow. To learn more about Alexion’s commitment to serving its communities, visit Alexion.com/Responsibility.
