Aboriginal Youth Awarded GE Scholarships
GE and the Institute of International Education (IIE) has announced its five 2011 GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders regional winners. For the first time since its inception, the program is exclusively offering financial support and skills development opportunities to Canadian-resident Aboriginal individuals.
GE Foundation's Scholar-Leaders program supports outstanding students who are pursuing the fields of engineering or business management. In addition to providing financial support, the program incorporates leadership training and mentorships over a three-year period. Scholars also work-shadow GE employees to gain insight into prospective careers and learn about the skills needed for their career advancement. "Post-secondary education is a critical component to drive Canada's success", says Terry Peach, HR manager, GE Canada. "We are delighted to recognize these five outstanding individuals and their many accomplishments." To continue reading about the Scholar-Leaders program, click here.
