Abbott Named an Industry Leader in Sustainability by S&P Global, Fortune and Newsweek
S&P Global names Abbott the industry leader in sustainability for eighth consecutive year; company also recognized as a leader in responsible business by Fortune, Newsweek
Abbott was named a Gold-Class company by S&P Global, which recognizes companies for being in the top 1% of their industry in sustainability performance. Abbott was the only company in its industry sector, Healthcare Equipment and Supplies, to be recognized as a Gold-Class company. This is the eighth consecutive year that S&P Global has recognized Abbott for leading its industry in sustainability as both a Gold-Class company and on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI).
Abbott also was recently honored by Fortune as both one of the world's 50 Most Admired Companies and for leading its industry in social responsibility. This follows other recent honors from Fortune naming Abbott to the Change the World list for delivering social impact through business, and to the Blue Ribbon Company list for appearing on multiple annual Fortune rankings. In addition, Newsweek recently named Abbott one of the top 25 America's Most Responsible Companies 2021.
The S&P Global Gold-Class rankings were announced as part of the release of The Sustainability Yearbook 2021, one of the world's most comprehensive publications providing in-depth analysis on corporate sustainability.
Manjit Jus, Global Head of ESG Research, S&P Global: “We congratulate Abbott on its Gold Award in The Sustainability Yearbook 2021, which showcases the best performing companies among industry peers and in terms of financially material ESG metrics. With over 7,000 companies assessed, an inclusion in the yearbook is a true statement of corporate sustainability excellence.”
The 2021 selection was based on a record 7,032 companies assessed in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessments (CSA), which is the basis for the S&P Global ESG Score. S&P Global ESG Scores also form the key factor for selecting companies for the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) and the CSA is used as one of the analytical tools for a growing series of S&P ESG indices including the S&P 500 ESG Index.
