'5G Master Class' From the Washington Post BrandStudio Explores the Human and Economic Benefits of 5G
As 5G goes mainstream this year, policymakers need to know what it is, how it works, and how the technology can help us build a more resilient economy. For over a decade, our engineers and researchers worked tirelessly to make the once-thought-impossible technological breakthroughs needed to launch this next generation of wireless.
To better explain the revolutionary nature of 5G connectivity to U.S. policymakers, Qualcomm Technologies recently teamed up with The Washington Post BrandStudio to create a 5G Master Class. The experience is divided into classes, where experts from inside and outside Qualcomm take you from 5G 101 to deeper topics, like the human benefits and economic opportunity.
“5G is a transformational technology that will impact industries and provide essential connectivity across a variety of use cases, such as telemedicine and mobile work, that are more important than ever before,” said Liya Sharif, vice president of marketing and head of brand at Qualcomm Technologies. “This collaboration with the Washington Post BrandStudio helps us share the broad impact 5G will have, scale our story, and reach audiences with breakthrough storytelling.”
Read on for a summary about the 5G master class lessons, and then click through to experience them for yourself.
5G 101: An intro to revolutionary wireless connectivity
In Lesson One, you’ll learn the basics of 5G and why the world needs it. Carolina Milanesi, principal analyst at Creative Strategies, a technology market research firm in Silicon Valley, joins Qualcomm Technologies’ own Durga Malladi, senior vice president and general manager for 4G/5G, in discussing the game-changing improvements over 4G, industries that stand to benefit, and how 5G can power far more than just smartphones.
Exploring the human benefits
Lesson Two is all about how 5G can positively impact our daily lives, from advancing telemedicine and closing the digital divide to supporting educators, healthcare providers, and the remote workforce. Susie Armstrong, Qualcomm senior vice president of engineering, and Quinn Li, Qualcomm Technologies senior vice president and global head of Qualcomm Ventures, break down the benefits and how Qualcomm is investing in entrepreneurs innovating to deliver them.
An economic opportunity
To wrap up the 5G Master Class, Lesson Three dives into the economic opportunities 5G is unlocking as it offers the potential to energize entirely new sectors and create jobs and opportunities we are just starting to imagine and build. Experts, including analysts Karen Campbell and Geoff Blaber, break down the global impact on areas such as factory maintenance, agriculture, and utilities.
