Wish Kid Aydin: "I wish to be a singer"
In anticipation of Halloween, adults and children alike ask themselves: “What do I want to be?” When Make-A-Wish® volunteers met with 7-year-old Aydin to learn what her one true wish would be, she asked herself the same question; and the answer was immediately clear. More than anything, Aydin wanted to be a singer.
At one time, Aydin's parents weren't sure she'd ever speak. Her diagnosis with a life-threatening medical condition came with a long list of possible ways it could impact her life. Though Aydin faces many obstacles, speech isn't one of them -- and she even took it a step further and learned to love singing.
What Aydin may not have envisioned when she told Make-A-Wish volunteers that she wished to be a singer is everything that would come with it: the photo shoots, the recording studio, a bundle of CDs and her debut performance at a local music venue. Aydin’s wish became an event that will lift her spirits far into the future. On the day of Aydin’s wish, friends participated in her wish by hearing her sing and lining up to get her autograph.
Aydin's experience as a singer gave her a glimpse of what life can hold besides medical treatments and worry, and gave her courage and optimism to help her overcome challenges in her future.
