UTC Leads in Organizing India Cycling Event to Raise Funds for Education of Underprivileged Children
May 6, 2014 /3BL Media/ - More than 1,200 people recently participated in the United India Ride, a first-of-its kind corporate cycling event. The ride was organized through a partnership between UTC, United Way of Delhi (UWD) and The Atlanta Foundation (TAF), an organization that promotes career enhancing educational programs for underprivileged students.
The United India Ride, which took place in Gurgaon, India, celebrated India’s unity in diversity, promoted sustainable transportation, health and wellness, and utilized a platform to promote education for underprivileged children.
In parts of India many children do not get the privilege of a basic education. By partnering with the United Way of Delhi, the event will help provide educational programs and resources for local children.
“With the help of corporate sponsorships and community participation, proceeds from the United India Ride, will support education for underprivileged children, a cause that UTC is extremely passionate about,” said Palash Roy Chowdhury, Managing Director India, Pratt & Whitney Commercial Engines, who also heads UTC’s CSR efforts in India and is a Board Member for the United Way of Delhi. “With increased urbanization throughout India, we believe rides like this will also promote the concept of an eco-friendly commute. So it’s a win-win for everyone.”
By focusing on vibrant communities, UTC fosters relationships with organizations where employees live and work. The company believes positive community investment encourages growth and vitality.
