United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi, Visits Children International in Quito, Ecuador
Ahmad Alhendawi Learns How Children International’s Youth Programs Change Outcomes for Youth in Poverty
The United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi, visited Children International in Quito, Ecuador, to learn more about Children International’s successful youth programs and how those programs have a positive impact on youth living in poverty.
As Envoy on Youth, Mr. Alhendawi is tasked with bringing the voices of young people to the United Nations System. The Envoy on Youth also works with different UN entities, governments, civil society, academia and media stakeholders toward enhancing, empowering and strengthening the position of young people within and outside the United Nations System.
While visiting Quito, Mr. Alhendawi met with youth who shared with him about Children International’s youth programs and how the programs have positively impacted their lives. Children International’s Into Employment program, for example, gives disadvantaged youth the skills, attitudes and knowledge they need to be successful in the workplace and in life. Children International’s youth programs also encourage youth to be leaders in their communities and inspire them to be agents of positive change. Children International’s Youth Councils are made up of elected representatives who promote their peers’ interests and implement community-improvement projects. Through youth programs such as these, Children International gives youth the opportunity to gain the knowledge they need to be self-reliant adults with the job skills and drive to break free from poverty while improving their own communities.
