The state of the world’s oceans is one of the major environmental concerns of our times. Pollution has led to an increase in the acidity of the water while overfishing has caused a reduction of fish populations to alarm levels. Add the massacre of sharks to meet illegal demands from the Asian market and the the picture that forms is even bleaker. Therefore, for those people who still use ocean-derived products, environmental responsibility is a must.

One of the companies providing certification is Friend of the Sea, which has labelled more than 350 companies in 50 countries. Its audits are based on the recent available scientific data and are run by accredited independent certification bodies.
