Samsung and ENERGY STAR® Give Back to a Community in Need to Celebrate ENERGY STAR Day
Donations help restore Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City while teaching the importance of conserving energy
October 31, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Samsung and ENERGY STAR celebrated ENERGY STAR Day yesterday with festivities at the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City. In light of the severe damage that the Club suffered from Superstorm Sandy one year ago, partners Boys & Girls Clubs of America, ENERGY STAR and Samsung gathered to unveil the refurbished Pennsylvania unit of the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City and celebrate the accomplishments in teaching Club members and their families about the importance of saving energy and protecting the environment from climate change.
Samsung donated energy-efficient appliances and electronics to the restored Club, including an ENERGY STAR® Most Efficient 2013 refrigerator, clothes washer and TV. An ENERGY STAR Emerging Technology award winner, clothes dryer DV457, plus ENERGY STAR certified products including a dishwasher, touch-screen LED monitor and LED light bulbs were also donated to the renovated Club. By outfitting the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City with its most energy-efficient products, Samsung is hoping to reinforce the impact saving energy can have on the planet’s climate. The fun-filled ENERGY STAR Day also included “Go Green” activities and a “Show Your LIGHT Side” creatively silly photo contest. All contestants walked away with an ENERGY STAR certified LED light bulb and one lucky shutterbug was awarded an ENERGY STAR certified LED lighting makeover for their home.
This ENERGY STAR Day, EPA was asking all Americans to “Do 1 Thing ENERGY STAR,” to help protect the climate. As part of its commitment to educating its customers about energy saving, Samsung is encouraging them to “Do 1 Thing ENERGY STAR” by taking the ENERGY STAR Pledge. The pledge encourages people to do simple things that make a big difference in saving energy, such as looking for the ENERGY STAR label when shopping and making sure their homes are well insulated. In 2012 alone, Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR, prevented 242 million metric tons of GHG emissions —– the annual equivalent of emissions from 50 million vehicles – and saved about $24 billion on their utility bills.*
Samsung and ENERGY STAR teamed up earlier this month as well to help another storm damaged community in need. On October 5, together with Rebuilding Together New Orleans, hundreds of volunteers joined forces to improve the homes and lives of low-income homeowners in New Orleans who are still recovering from the devastating effects of 2005’s Hurricane Katrina. This year, RTNO rebuilt a number of houses and one of them, dubbed the “ENERGY STAR House,” received an energy efficiency makeover that included an ENERGY STAR certified Samsung washer and dryer, bringing energy savings to a family in need.
ENERGY STAR certified products provide top performance and innovative features which include more than 1,000 models of Samsung TVs, monitors, notebook PCs and printers/multifunction devices.* Samsung was honored for “Excellence in Product Labeling” in 2009 for consistent, high-profile placement of the ENERGY STAR logo on select products and ENERGY STAR Promotion in 2010. Samsung was named ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year, two years in a row in 2011, 2012 and received EPA’s highest honor – ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence in 2013.
