Revisiting Today’s Business Sustainability Skills

As we have extensively discussed in previous posts, sustainable business leaders have elevated corporate culture and the creation of meaningful work to be one of their organization’s top priority.   Thus, our sustainability consulting pracatice continues its study of leadership and the evolving nature of required executive characteristics for sustainable business development.   Reviewing a recent GreenBiz article, Too Many MBA Students Graduate Without Right Sustainability Skills, our sustainability consulting practice finds some interesting insight into the evolving knowledge set required for aspiring business leaders. Building on traditional business aptitudes, GreenBiz suggest the following be added to the knowledge base of the leaders of tomorrow:   • Inside-out skills: Those needed for the day-to-day duties, such as an understanding of project management, finance, marketing and risk mitigation. • Outside-in skills: Those needed to assess the external issues that can impact a business, including knowledge of public policy and the multi-cultural perspectives of the communities in which the company operates. • Traversing skills: Those that intersect the first two sets of skills, such as systems thinking and interpersonal skills that can be used to communicate with internal and external audiences.    Click here to continue reading Revisiting Today's Business Sustainability Skills.
