Newmont Named Leading Mining Company by CR Magazine
Corporate Responsibility Magazine (CR Magazine) recently listed Newmont in its 17th Annual 100 Best Corporate Citizens List for the fifth time. Coming in at number 69, Newmont is the highest ranking mining company on the list.
The 100 Best Corporate Citizens List documents 260 data points of disclosure and performance measures – gathered from publicly available information in seven categories: environment, climate change, employee relations, human rights, governance, finance, and philanthropy and community support.
“Companies that make our list […] engage in a wide range of responsible business practices, and do so while succeeding financially as well. They exemplify good corporate citizenship,” said Belinda Sharr, editor of CR Magazine.
In 2015, Newmont was ranked by the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) as the mining industry’s leader in overall sustainability, marking the ninth consecutive year the company has been included on the index. Newmont was the first gold company named to the index in 2007, and has been included on the DJSI North America Index every year since 2006.
Thanks to our global workforce’s talent, hard work and commitment, we are able to keep making progress toward achieving our purpose to create value and improve lives through sustainable and responsible mining.
Last month, Newmont released our annual sustainability report, Beyond the Mine, detailing the company’s 2015 performance and progress in the areas of ethics and governance, economic contribution, treatment of employees, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility. We invite you to visit Beyond the Mine to explore our work to build the world’s most profitable and responsible gold mining business.
