Make-A-Wish® Celebrates Summertime with Three Travel Wishes

Summer is a time for traveling. People take advantage of the summertime to visit new places, whether that be a trip to Europe, to the beach or to a national park for a camping trip. For Make-A-Wish® wish kids, a travel related wish is their opportunity to explore and take a break from the life-threatening medical conditions they face.

Penelope's Wish

Penelope, age 6, wished to go to Paris. Her trip offered an escape from her battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and the resulting bone marrow transplant. During her time in the city of lights, Penelope had a tea party, spent time playing at playgrounds, enjoyed the famous cuisine and saw the historical landmarks.

Kenny's Wish

Kenny, 16, a resident of Maui, Hawaii, wished to go see snow at Lake Tahoe because he’d never seen it before. While at Lake Tahoe, Kenny learned to ski and experienced many other snowy activities.

“Word[s] cannot express the gratitude that we have for [Make-A-Wish]. You have made Kenny’s wish to see snow an unforgettable experience that will forever be cherished in our hearts.  You have given Kenny, along with all of us, the drive to stay healthy, active and always keep your head up,” Kenny’s parents said.

Addison's Wish

One little girl had a whimsical travel wish. Addison, 6, wished to meet a unicorn in the rainforests of Hawaii. Addison and her family visited Waimea, where she went on an adventure to rescue the queen of a magical land. She saved the day with the help of a handsome prince, and even got to sit on the back of the magical unicorn.

For Penelope, Kenny and Addison, their travel wishes provided a much needed respite from battling their medical conditions. Through granting “to go” wishes, Make-A-Wish seeks to give these children and their families the escape they deserve, all to fulfill the organization’s mission of granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
