The Land Institute Adds $1,000 Prize to Biomimicry Global Design Challenge

March 9, 2016 /3BL Media/ - The Land Institute has dedicated the past 40 years to researching a new way to grow our food that mimics the fertility and resilience of natural systems like prairies. Instead of the resource-wasting, monocropping approach that our current system relies upon, The Land Institute is focusing on developing a new agricultural method based on perennial grains and polyculture to create high yields and healthier soils while minimizing or eliminating reliance on chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

While the overall Biomimicry Global Design Challenge is open to any food system design solution (nature-inspired, of course!), The Land Institute is offering a $1000 prize for the best submission that addresses their specific design brief. Winners of the Land Institute prize are still eligible for all of the other Biomimicry Global Design Challenge prizes, including the $100,000 Ray C. Anderson Foundation “Ray of Hope” Prize.
