Just in time for U.S. Conflict Minerals Reporting, New Conflict-Free Tungsten Program is Announced
In a new collaboration between the Conflict-Free Source Initiative (CFSI) and the Tungsten Industry Conflict Minerals Council (TI-CMC), Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) tungsten smelters will now be able to become validated as conflict-free. This program comes as needed help to companies that have been working to source conflict minerals in their supply chain in efforts to comply with Dodd-Frank 1502. Being able to provide companies with audit validated, conflict-free tungsten, also positively affects the people of the DRC by partially removing the threat of mining violence.
The implementation of the program will provide confidence to customers that the tungsten smelters do not support the conflict in the DRC. This will result in repeat business, and allow customers that stopped buying from the DRC, due to the inability to correctly source the tungsten, come back once again. The names of the conflict-free smelters will be made public knowledge to help businesses make informed sourcing decisions.
