GreenBlue‘s 9th Annual SPC Fall Members Meeting Moves Packaging Industry Towards Sustainability
September 6, 2013 /3BL Media/ - The Sustainable Packaging Coalition, a project of sustainability nonprofit GreenBlue, will hold its 9th annual Fall Members Meeting October 7-8, 2013 in St. Petersburg, Florida. The event will convene prominent stakeholders from across the packaging supply chain to address sustainability topics ranging from sourcing considerations to recovery systems. Over two days, attendees will engage in several working sessions on key topics aimed at arming stakeholders with the tools they need to effect change in their portion of the industry.
Keeping with the tradition of SPC Fall Members Meetings, the conference features numerous opportunities for attendees to participate in open-door committee meetings around the Coalition’s work. Six committees will hold working sessions and report out on leading-edge topics, including sustainability marketing claims, healthcare packaging, packaging recovery, and efforts to increase the availability of certified fiber.
New this year are presentations on topics ranging from the latest developments in life cycle analysis to the future of recycling to innovations in bioplastics. Nina Goodrich, Executive Director of GreenBlue and its Sustainable Packaging Coalition, will lead the discussion on how bioplastics have the potential to revolutionize the chemical and packaging industries. “This quiet revolution goes well beyond the standard drivers for sustainably sourced and/or compostable materials, with bioplastics emerging as viable alternatives to many petroleum-based polymers. The ability to capture carbon and create materials through sustainable manufacturing pathways provides a glimmer of hope for our ability to build a regenerative economy,” said Goodrich.
The event will also feature a number of activities and networking opportunities for attendees. In addition to celebrating the Coalition’s work at the event’s welcome reception, attendees will be able to participate in a coastal cleanup activity facilitated by the Ocean Conservancy, a tour of member company CHEP’s pallet service center, and a test-drive of GreenBlue’s new Sustainability Game.
