Free Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) and Human Rights - Webinar & In-Person Event
September 25, 2013 - Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver & ONLINE
September 12, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Over the past years, a consensus has emerged that free, prior, and informed consent ("FPIC") is a cornerstone component of international human rights law, particularly in relation to indigenous peoples.
For the extractive industry, indigenous people's rights are a key issue because of the country context in which many extractive operations take place, and the location of natural resources on the lands and territories of indigenous peoples. Often where there are allegations of human rights violations, you can trace a big part of the issue back to a lack of prior consultation and consent.
Join CBSR and industry experts, for an insightful discussion on achieving FPIC, how to appropriately engage to obtain FPIC, and examples of best practices and lessons from the field of human rights impact assessments around the world.
