Davidson, N.C., June 23, 2016 /3BL Media/ – Ingersoll Rand (NYSE:IR), a world leader in creating comfortable, sustainable and efficient environments, accepted three “Product and Project of the Year” awards from Environmental Leader at the fifth annual Environmental Leader Conference in Denver, Colorado on Wednesday.

The company received the awards for its Thermo King truck and trailer refrigeration units in Europe using R452A, Trane Sintesis™ Air-cooled chiller and Trane Series E™ CenTraVac Water-cooled chiller (known in the United States and Canadian markets as models CVHH/CDHH). These products have earned Ingersoll Rand’s EcoWise™ endorsement, signifying they are designed to lower environmental impact with next-generation, low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants and high efficiency operation.

“We designed these products with the future in mind and recognized early on that our customers expect solutions with low-GWP refrigerants to mitigate their environmental impacts,” said W. Scott Tew, executive director, Center for Energy Efficiency & Sustainability (CEES) at Ingersoll Rand. “Ingersoll Rand is committed to bringing our customers efficiency, reliability and sustainability in everything we do and recognition such as this reaffirms that we are leading the way to a better, more sustainable future.”

Judges of the Environmental Leader Awards applauded each product for their sustainable refrigerant features, ability to be used in existing equipment and innovative design. The Environmental Leader Awards are awarded to products and projects with exemplary environmental sustainability attributes.

“Each year since the inception of the Environmental Leader Product and Project Awards program, the range and quality of the entries has risen. With the bar set high, the pool of 2016 entrants did not disappoint,” said Peter Bussey, research analyst with LNS Research and judging coordinator for the Product & Project Awards. “The community of providers continues to address the rising demand for cost-effective solutions to address complex environmental, sustainability, and energy management challenges. And end-user organizations are becoming more creative in applying the available solutions to get real results.”

George Wan, vice president of Engineering and Technology at Thermo King; Roger Hubert, sales leader at Trane; and Debbie Kalish, program manager at Ingersoll Rand accepted the awards on behalf of Ingersoll Rand.

Ingersoll Rand Climate Commitment
In 2014, Ingersoll Rand announced the company’s Climate Commitment to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from its products and operations by 2030. The Ingersoll Rand Climate Commitment pledges to:

  • Cut the refrigerant GHG footprint of its products by 50 percent by 2020 and incorporate lower-global warming potential alternatives across its portfolio by 2030;
  • Invest $500 million in product-related research and development by 2020 to fund the long-term reduction of GHG emissions; and
  • Reduce company operations-related GHG emissions by 35 percent by 2020.

To date, the company’s Climate Commitment has supported the avoidance of approximately 2 million metric tons of CO2e globally, which is the equivalent of avoiding annual CO2 emissions from energy used in more than 270,000 homes or more than 2.1 billion pounds of coal burned. By 2030, the company expects to reduce its carbon footprint by 50 million metric tons.
