EarthX to Launch Daily Environmental News from NowThis Earth to Inspire Environmental Awareness and Action
EarthX and NowThis Earth come together to spotlight environmental challenges and propose practical solutions through daily content
On January 25, EarthX will begin streaming daily content from NowThis Earth focused on environmental issues and simple solutions to help the planet. Content will air on EarthxTV and will enrich EarthX’s youth offerings. The content offering will come in the form of daily news, as well as original explanatory programming like NowThis’ sustainability series One Small Step.
Daily News Content | The new initiative will be a news source of daily videos airing Monday through Friday. Content will come from the the newly-formed NowThis Earth, a mobile news channel launched by NowThis, in partnership with Earth HQ, the media arm of the Global Commons Alliance, a coalition of scientific, philanthropic and conservation organizations along with business networks working to protect the global commons. The new channel covers human impacts on the planet and recommends actions that foster progress. Videos will cover climate, oceans and forests, endangered species, biodiversity and vulnerable communities in formats such as changemaker profiles, interviews, and video op-eds.
Explanatory Content | NowThis Earth will also provide explanatory style videos that inform the audience on the daily actions they can take to care for the environment, like its original series One Small Step. These videos will work in conjunction with EarthxYouth’s educational content and will pair with virtual field trips that supplement K-12 virtual learning during the pandemic and beyond.
“To support the EarthX mission and its impact over the last 10 years, the collaboration with NowThis increases our ability to inspire a younger audience and energize a global community in ways that help create a sustainable world for all living things, and a better, cleaner, healthier world for future generations,” said Trammell S. Crow, Founder of EarthX.
“In the wake of growing environmental crises around the globe, there is a planet-sized news and information gap on the big picture of what’s happening to the Earth’s systems as a whole. NowThis Earth was launched to inform Millennial and Gen-Z audiences about the implications of human activity on our planet and illuminate solutions to these urgent challenges,” stated NowThis President Athan Stephanopoulos. “We couldn’t be more excited to partner with EarthX to further extend our coverage on these important issues to their community.” said about the coverage.
NowThis’ sustainability-related coverage is particularly popular among its Millennial and Gen-Z audiences. EarthX’s partnership with NowThis Earth will enable the nonprofit to enlarge its influence and will support its purpose to promote environmental awareness and impact.
Through this collaboration, EarthX will also integrate with the Global Commons Alliance, an unprecedented collaboration of influential actors focused on systems change. Launched in June, 2019, the Global Commons Allianceis bringing together powerful leadership, science, innovation, technology, and communications to positively transform the global economy and protect the global commons.
“There is overwhelming evidence that we are in the middle of a planetary emergency. We aim to work with EarthX to establish NowThis Earth as an indispensable news source for young people wanting to take action now.” said Tim Kelly, Director of the Global Commons Alliance’s Earth HQ.
