Donating for the holidays? Don’t Forget Your Company’s Match
(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) - December 22, 2011 - Tis’ the season for charitable giving. So get the most from your donation by using your company’s matching gift program. Here are some tips from the JK Group on how to get your matching gift.
How do I get my gift matched?-
First ask your HR department if your company has a Matching gift program. If not, they may have another type of charitable program available, like a volunteer grant initiative. Find out what the options are.
-
Then make sure to read the guidelines of the program. While many companies have programs, not all non-profits or gift types are eligible for every program. Make sure you understand what is eligible before you give.
-
Pay attention to the payment guidelines of your company’s program. Many companies pay matching gifts on a quarterly basis. Your match may not be paid until the first quarter of 2012, but that’s ok. The non-profit will still need the donation next year so don’t worry if your match takes a bit longer to get there.
-
Submit your match request. Most matching gift applications are done online. The donor fills out the application, indicating the organization, the amount of the gift, and the date it was donated. Then the organization is notified that there is a pending application and is asked to confirm the amount of the gift. Once the organization confirms, your match is reviewed to be paid at the next pay cycle.
