Preserving Native Vegetation Areas: Valley Ridge Preserve for Sustainability Research and Demonstration
Valley Ridge Preserve, in the rolling hills of southwest Wisconsin, is a 145-acre land parcel that is currently being restored to native woodland, oak savanna, and prairie vegetation by the nonprofit Leonardo Academy. The land serves as a research, demonstration, and education site for sustainable land management practices. In addition, buildings can gain off-site native vegetation credit through the Preserve to earn Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings (LEED EB) points for Sustainable Sites (SS), and the associated innovation point.
