Caesars Foundation Announces More Than $1 Million in Giving For First Quarter of 2014
Since its inception, Caesars Foundation has given more than $66 million to community organizations
LAS VEGAS, March 7, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Furthering the commitment to the communities in which they operate, Caesars Foundation is pleased to announce the approval of 21 grants totaling more than $1 million at the 2014 first quarter meeting. Grants were approved in the following program areas: older individuals, education and sustainability.
Organizations receiving support include Angel’s Depot in San Diego, Calif., Atlantic Cape Community College in Atlantic City, N.J., Audubon Institute in New Orleans, La., Best Buddies in Las Vegas, Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation in Baltimore, Md., Chicago Gateway Green in Hammond, Ind., Chicanos Por La Causa in Las Vegas, Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada, GLADD, Green Chips in Las Vegas, ITN Las Vegas, Joliet Area Historical Museum in Joliet, Ill., Legacy Donor Foundation in New Orleans, La., National Park Trust, Nevada Senior Games, Senior Services Center of Will County in Joliet, Ill., The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas, and The Cooper Foundation in Atlantic City, N.J.
Additionally, Meals on Wheels Association of America (MOWAA), Teach for America and the United Negro College Fund received continued support from the Foundation.
MOWAA is an organization providing home-delivered meals and services to older individuals in need. In addition to monetary support, Caesars Foundation has also donated more than 50 vehicles to affiliates of MOWAA in 18 states across the country. This represents more than a $5 million commitment the Foundation has invested toward ending senior hunger through a partnership that spans more than a decade.
Teach for America, a nonprofit focused on eliminating educational inequality by enlisting the nation's most promising future leaders to work in at-risk schools, has received grants and in-kind contributions from Caesars Foundation since 2010. As part of the partnership, the Foundation adopted two Las Vegas-area schools – Walter V. Long Elementary School and Jerome D. Mack Middle School – in an effort to demonstrate that all children can excel when given the opportunity, knowledge and skills to achieve. Additionally, the Foundation has extended the opportunity for parents of students at both schools to take part in the Vegas PBS Back-to-Work program that offers educational courses and occupational certificate-training programs.
United Negro College Fund (UNCF) is an educational assistance organization that funds scholarships for black students and general scholarships for nearly 40 private historical black colleges and universities. With the renewed commitment from the Foundation, is able to assist hundreds of students who require financial support to complete their education as well as provide mentoring to the students at various leadership conferences.
