Arrow Electronics’ Interns Build 32 Wheelchairs for Veterans
The Arrow Electronics summer intern class teamed together last month to build 32 wheelchairs for military veterans in need. The Build-a-Wheelchair® corporate social responsibility team-building event was a part of Arrow’s annual Intern Kickoff event.
The Build-a-Wheelchair program was born out of a desire to help American veterans and others with various mobility challenges. Groups use teamwork and leadership skills to assemble, test and decorate new wheelchairs for donation.
“The Build-A-Wheelchair event was a great opportunity to see how social responsibility takes priority at Arrow,” said Allyson Berry, an intern in Arrow’s corporate communications department.
This year, Arrow welcomed 157 interns from 59 universities to its immersive summer learning program, which is one of the company’s primary talent-development pipelines. Interns gain real-world experience and the skills needed to transition into full-time Arrow careers at their end of their experience.
